The Voice

Revelation 1:10-11

On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, which said: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."

When John was in the Spirit, in touch with his spiritual side, he heard a voice. You know that you have Spirit like John. John lived on earth in a human body just like you. John was born in the image of God just like you. John believed that God sent his Son Jesus so that we may have eternal life just like you believe it.

John is no different than you. Can you believe that? He was a human living on earth in an earthly vessel but made of a mind, soul and spirit. So are you. You are no different than John in your makeup. You are really no different than John in your faith and beliefs. Yes John knew Jesus on this earth. Yes John knew Jesus after his resurrection. John had faith in Jesus, but so do we.

We believe all the same things that John believed yet we did not live on earth with Jesus. Our faith is based on the Word of God. Is that all it takes -the Word- to give us faith? We may have a difficult time with acting on our faith if it was purely based on the Bible. I am not saying that if you stayed in the Word all of the time you could not have strong faith on it alone. However we don’t have faith and walk in faith purely from reading the Bible. We have a part of God inside of us. We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us.

We have faith because we chose to believe that God sent Jesus to this world for us and because we received the Holy Spirit, a part of God, to live inside of us. Our faith increases with spending time with God or in his Word, but our faith came when we chose to believe in Jesus. After we made that choice we received the Holy Spirit which is our Counselor and Helper in our faith.

John had faith. We have faith. John had the Holy Spirit. We have the Holy Spirit. John was Spirit and physical. We are Spirit and physical. John heard a voice while in the Spirit. We can hear a voice while in the Spirit.

Maybe you have never heard God’s voice because you did not know how to use your spiritual ears and eyes. Maybe you have never heard from God because you did not understand your spirit self and could not be open to that side of you. Just maybe your spiritual eyes and ears have been closed and shut down only due to your lack of knowledge and understanding of your Spirit self. This opens up a whole new arena for many Christians who seek the voice of God yet have not found what they are looking for. If you are not in touch with your Spirit self then it makes sense that it could be very difficult to use your spiritual eyes and ears. This is because you are only using your physical, earthly eyes and ears. Your physical body works in the physical realm. Your eyes in your head see the physical world. Your ears on your head hear the physical world. If you are trying to see and hear God using only your physical self, it might not work. God is Spirit.

God was physical in flesh only in Jesus. So if you lived on earth with Jesus you heard him with your physical ears and saw him with your physical eyes – then you did hear and see God (in human form). But if you do not live on earth while God is flesh on earth, you no longer have the physical opportunity to see and hear God with your body. God in Jesus is no longer here on earth living among us. We do not have the chance to use our physical eyes to see Jesus or physical ears to hear him. However when Jesus left earth He ask the Father to send us the Holy Spirit so that Jesus could still be with us, not in the physical but in the Spirit. The Father did send us the Holy Spirit. Jesus is still with us just no longer physically living in a body among us. So why do we tend to rely so very heavily on our physical bodies? Yes this earth bound body demands attention and is very hard to ignore. But it is only a small part of our being, our self. If Jesus no longer lives among us on earth we should not expect to hear God’s voice or see Him with our physical tools. It’s time to start using our other parts. It’s time to use a very important part of us other than relying always on just the one part.

Do you want to hear God’s voice? It is ever so lovely. It is everything beautiful. I know you want to hear His voice. I know you want to hear His words speak to you. I also know you believe that God’s voice can be heard. You believe ministers and teachers of God’s Word when they say that they hear from God and hear His voice. You believe the Word of God. You believe that God wants you to hear His voice. Jesus said in John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

I believe you sincerely seek God’s voice in prayer, meditation, and time spent with Him. You know that Jesus said his followers hear his voice and follow it. Why have you not hear it yet? What is the problem? You ask God to come and speak to you, but nothing. At another time I will go through the steps of how to ask God specifically to speak to you with His voice. For now let’s just focus on our spirits.

If you have been seeking God’s voice but have not found it yet, it could be that you are using the wrong ears. It could be that your flesh takes over. Maybe your flesh is overpowering the other parts of you including your Spirit. You cannot hear the Spiritual calling with a physical hearing. I am not at all saying that God cannot use His power to speak to us with an audible voice if He chooses. I am saying that we are sometimes, often, or always using a part of us, a physical piece of us, to try to hear the spiritual. This is exactly why we are in this study “The Spirit Me”. We are here because God wants to open us up to see our other parts and to use them. God wants us to learn to use our spiritual parts, our spiritual eyes and ears so that we may approach the throne of grace beyond just imagination.

Do you know what “open” means? It means “not decided.” God wants us to go from “decided” in our way of thinking to “not decided” and open to learning all parts that make us who we are as God’s creations. God wants us to go from “decided” in our way of thinking to open to His Word and our spiritual self. He never wants us to be closed to his Word even the words that seem mysterious and unclear to our human mind. It is time to open up and receive all of God. We will always fall on the Word of God to confirm our questions and uncertainty. At this time we will give God our hearts, minds and souls open and free to hear from Him.

Pray with me.
Dear Father God,
Thank you for granting us such a special opportunity to learn more about ourselves and you. We open our hearts, our minds and our souls to receive your truth. We will not let any fear or hesitation prohibit us from receiving this divine revelation you send us. We believe your Word Father. We know that we were made in your image, and you are Spirit. We accept the Holy Spirit that you sent to us to live inside of us here on earth. We are physical beings living on a physical earth, but we are far more than that alone. We believe John 3:16 and know that you so loved the world that you sent your one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. We know that these earthly bodies will cease, and it will be our spirits that live on and have eternal life.

(Say this out loud.) At this moment in time we declare to you Father God, the earth and everything in it – that we are Spirit. The Spirit of the Almighty lives in us. The Holy Spirit came to us and we are filled with the Holy Spirit, your Spirit. From this day forward we will remember that our physical bodies are temporary, but our Spirits are not. Our spirits remain eternal with you because of Jesus.

Dear Father God let the spirit of wisdom and an open mind cover our physical self to see more of our spiritual self. We are ready to go with you God to see beyond our physical eyes and hear beyond our physical ears. We are ready to take our physical instruments, our brain, our soul and everything that you gave us in this body and surrender to you and to this Spirit self. We grant permission, as the owner of this human vessel, to let our spirits reveal themselves to us. We are no longer bound to our physical bodies only. We no longer accept that our flesh will rule us. We know as we learn and grow spiritually our flesh will lose its control over us. This Spirit that you so graciously granted us upon our belief in your Son Jesus, this Holy Spirit that lives in us, we fully and completely accept and welcome!

I am Spirit. I am not a mere physical piece of matter with a soul. I am Spirit, soul and body. I house the Holy Spirit of God. Father let my spirit reveal itself to me so that I can further the kingdom of God. I am ready. I want to use my spiritual eyes and my spiritual ears just like many others have done from the Bible, like John. Let John’s story and his words touch my inner soul, my heart, and let my understanding of the Spirit grow only according to your time and your will.

Let it come Father – your divine revelation.
We pray each and every word in the name of Jesus our Savior.
Amen

I hope you prayed that with me, and if you did not pray it out loud I encourage you to read it and pray it again loud enough to hear yourself commit to it. Hear yourself commit to God, his Word, and to listening for his divine revelation. To speak it loud enough for your physical ears to hear it will let your physical self, your body, know you mean business and that you will not let your flesh get in the way. It is good to hear your voice speak to God and declare his Word. It helps to further increase your faith and know that you mean what you say.

I am proud of you for praying to God and accepting his divine revelation even though it could be an uncomfortable place for you. Be proud of yourself. You are opening your mind and soul to new things that can greatly benefit your everyday life. God has such a great plan for you. He is just trying to teach us more and more of Him and how to pray effectively. He wants us to see our prayers answered clearly. However we need to understand Him and his ways to better see that. You are taking a journey that will give you great success in your prayer life. Understanding our spirit self is going to take us to new places in prayer.

Continue this week being open to learning more about your spirit self. I want you to make a real effort to spend some quiet time with God. It can be 20 minutes, 10 minutes, or even 5 minutes if necessary. Find just those few minutes early before you rise out of bed, at lunch time, at bedtime or whenever you can be alone with God. I know you can give God 5 or 10 minutes of alone time. You absolutely can do this. During this quiet time with God rest in his presence. Simply sit or lie down and be with God. In Psalm 46:10 we are told, “Be still, and know that I am God.” That is your activity for the week. Be still and know that He is God. No speaking or talking is necessary but listening is necessary. Be still and know that He is God and listen. If you think you hear a voice, acknowledge it as a voice. If you don’t hear anything, know that you have obeyed God and He is please with you. Imagine how God feels as we sit and try to eliminate distractions in our life to just be with Him. He loves it. I strongly encourage you to do this so that God can move you closer to Him and closer to that divine revelation you seek. I am so, so proud of you and so is God!
