What is the last thing God did for you?
What is the last prayer God answered for you?
What is the last solution God brought you?
We have been looking at our love for God so to understand our trust in God better. We started with simply asking ourselves “Why do I love God?” I think this question may have opened up some new thought processes for us. We are thinking more about our reasons we love God.
Isaiah 53:5 reminded us that Jesus took our punishment. It says “the punishment that brought us peace was upon him.” That is how great God's love is for us. Our last lesson showed us just how much Jesus suffered because of his love for us. Do you love him? Do you appreciate his suffering in order to save you? Have you begun to see more of your love for God? Is your love rising to the surface?
When you say “I love God” is it beginning to feel different? Well hold on girls, it is about to feel a lot different. This week we are going to look at just what God does for us on a daily basis. Once we get involved in this lesson and corresponding activity, your love for God will show up like never before. You will start to realize how much you really do love God. And when this happens you can use your love for Him to trust Him. We are working toward taking Proverbs 3:5 and using it like never before.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
We are learning to trust in the Lord by looking at our love for Him. When we see our love for Him more clearly, it is easier to trust Him. When you love someone deeply because of their loving and tender qualities, trust comes. Bringing your love for God to the surface, fresh in your mind, is a work toward learning your trust in Him. This is going to be a fantastic week. Because we are going to really see our love for God on a very personal level.
This is our task for the week. Don't forget to do this one each day for it can be very powerful if attended to. We are going to look at the questions that introduced this lesson.
What is the last thing God did for you?
What is the last prayer God answered for you?
What is the last solution God brought you?
We are going to look at all the good things we receive from God. They may be small or great. It does not matter. What does matter is that we recognize God's hand in all the good things that happen to us. Do you believe that God wants good for you? Of course you do because you know that God has a plan for you, and it is plans to prosper you and give you success based on Jeremiah 29:11-13.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” This week we are going to make it easy and look at the good things in our lives. We will graduate however, to giving thanks also in the not so good things and circumstances. But we will start by paying attention to all that God gives us.
Psalm 138 is David's thanksgiving to God for answered prayer. Please read it this week as you work the task for this lesson. I recommend that you use your Bible to read this. It just feels good to open your Bible, the Word of God. Enjoy your Bible. I love mine! I really love it!
Some of the things David says out of the eight verses are as follows:
I will praise you, O Lord, will all my heart.
I will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness.
When I called, you answered me.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble you preserve my life.
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever.
Like David we also receive answers to our prayers. In addition to answered prayers, God simply brings good our way in so many things. This week start looking for the good he has sent your way. We are not going back in time to those past answered prayers and victories. We are going to only look at the very recent good things God has done for us.
So start with this question first:
What is the last thing God did for you?
I mean the last thing, not from last month or even last week. Think of today or yesterday only. I am sure you know it. It does not have to be anything big.
For example:
The last thing God did for me was:
1.Got the kids to school on time.
2.Helped my daughter complete her difficult homework.
3.Showed me how to forgive someone.
4.Reminded me to be kind and helpful.
I think you get the idea, and God will help you remember. Beyond bringing you into a spirit of thankfulness and gratitude toward God, this is going to bring your love for God forward.
Each day at each meal answer the question:
What is the last thing God did for me?
It could even be as simple as “provided me with this food to eat, gas in my car, a home.” Be sure to answer it at each meal, or at least 3 times per day. I encourage you to write it down also. Carry a piece of paper with you, in your purse or car. Write down your answers. Include the date and time on your paper. If you can do this, it will make a greater impact on you and your trust for God. You need it recorded for future use. So please, please know this is important.
At the bottom of your paper or below your answer, use words from Psalm 138 to show your gratitude. Personalize the words David provides in this Psalm. For example write:
I praise you, O Lord with all my heart.
And
I praise your name for your love and your faithfulness.
Or
When I called you God, you answered me.
It is a great guideline to show your Father God your love and gratitude for Him. Don't forget to read Psalm 138 often. It will lift you to a place of rejoicing. And you will appreciate the God you love.
I look forward to this positive and uplifting lesson. It will turn our eyes and hearts to the many good things our God does for us. Enjoy seeing His daily benefits stowed upon you.
P.S.
It is a good idea to keep blank sheets of paper handy - around the house, office or car -with the question “What is the last thing God did for me?” at the top. It serves as a reminder, as well as keeping you prepared and ready for God' request this week.
